Professor Mbacham Wilfred Fon Appointed Vice-Chair of National Malaria Scientific Committee


The National Malaria Control Program has established an ad hoc Scientific Committee to orchestrate its upcoming scientific conferences scheduled for December 10-12, 2025. In a significant development, Professor Mbacham Wilfred Fon, President and Founder of FINISTECH, has been appointed as Vice-Chair of this prestigious committee, working under the general coordination of the Minister of Public Health, Chair of the Roll Back Malaria Committee.


Professor Mbacham will serve alongside Professor Bissek Zoung Kany Anne Cecile, Head of the Operational Research Division, who chairs the committee. Together, they will lead a team tasked with ensuring the successful execution of the National Malaria Control Program’s Scientific Days, commonly referred to as JSPNLP.


The Scientific Committee carries substantial responsibilities in shaping what promises to be a landmark event in Cameroon’s fight against malaria. The committee’s mandate encompasses the critical evaluation of individual research submissions, including abstracts, posters, and presentations from researchers and health professionals across the country and beyond. This rigorous review process will ensure that only high-quality; impactful research is showcased during the three-day conference.


Beyond evaluation duties, the committee will develop the comprehensive program for the scientific days, carefully structuring sessions to maximize knowledge exchange and collaborative opportunities. Professor Mbacham and his colleagues will also be responsible for appointing session chairs who will facilitate discussions and maintain the academic rigor of each presentation segment. Additionally, the committee will form expert panels for panel discussions, bringing together thought leaders to address pressing challenges and innovative solutions in malaria control.


As Vice-Chair, Professor Mbacham will work in close collaboration with Professor Bissek Zoung Kany Anne Cecile, providing strategic oversight and leveraging his extensive experience in biomedical research and public health to strengthen the scientific quality of the conferences. His appointment reflects recognition of FINISTECH’s contributions to health innovation and research in Cameroon.


The JSPNLP Scientific Days represent a crucial platform for advancing malaria research, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration among scientists, clinicians, policymakers, and public health practitioners. Under the leadership of this newly constituted Scientific Committee, the December 2025 event is expected to generate valuable insights and recommendations that will inform national malaria control strategies and interventions in the years ahead.
